Brian Cohen is the founder and President of
IDiscover Consulting Group, a successful management consulting firm which
provides strategic advice to clients on issues of business growth such as
overall business and market strategy, brand positioning and communications, customer
experience, and customer/market research. He has over 20 years of professional
and consulting experience. During his career, Brian has worked with
organizations in numerous industries including technology, higher education
(primarily universities and university alumni associations), not-for-profit,
healthcare, energy, banking, steel processing, waste management, and others.
Brian was also a member of the founding team of a
Houston-based Internet company, GlobalPitch.com. During Brian’s involvement GlobalPitch.com
grew to over 55,000 account holders and raised an initial round of angel
capital through the Houston Angel Network. As a member of the leadership team,
Brian helped craft the business plan, conducted early market research (through IDiscover
Consulting Group), and primarily oversaw customer relations and market strategy
and communications.
Prior to forming IDiscover in 2004, Brian worked
with a Houston-based market research firm where he co-founded a national study
of university alumni attitudes/perceptions and consulted with approximately 50
university alumni associations across the nation on alumni relationship
building, strategic, and operational issues. During this time Brian led a large
alumni feedback research study for the entire University of California system.
He also advised a number of corporations and non-profits on strategic,
operational, and customer satisfaction issues.
During this time, Brian also served as an
independent advisor to a number of technology companies in Texas and in Silicon
Valley providing strategy, business planning, merger and acquisition support,
business development, and operational consulting.
Previously Brian was a Director/Manager with Arthur
Andersen LLP. In this capacity he worked with Andersen's Global Corporate
Finance practice providing strategic business and financial advice including
asset sales, turnaround/restructuring, and bankruptcy advice. He served a
diverse client base ranging from Japan's national oil company to US-based
energy companies. As part of Andersen's Business Consulting practice, Brian was
a founding member of the firm's Revenue Enhancement Competency Center - an
internal "think tank" dedicated to the creation, development, and
worldwide launch of Andersen's worldwide revenue-side consulting practice. He
also served as the competency center's first worldwide knowledge manager. Brian
also advised a number of clients nationwide on revenue improvement, customer
satisfaction, and process improvement issues.
Before Andersen, Brian was an information
technology and performance improvement consultant at Ernst & Young LLP. He
began his career as a systems analyst with a multinational energy company.
Brian holds an MBA (with a concentration in
Finance) from the Cox School of Business at Southern Methodist University and a
BBA in Business Analysis and Research (specialization in Management Information
Systems) from the Mays Business School at Texas A&M University.
Brian is also an active member of the technology
community. He is affiliated with a number of diverse organizations such as Houston Technology Center, the Rice Alliance for
Technology and Entrepreneurship, the American Marketing Association, and the Greater Houston Partnership. In addition, he frequently judges MBA-level
competitions hosted by the Center for New Ventures
and Entrepreneurship at
Texas A&M. He is active in the social media community as well.
In the community,
Brian serves as President of the Board of Governors of The Center Serving Persons with Mental Retardation in Houston, Texas. He also chairs
the board's Public Relations/Legislative Affairs committee. He has also led
numerous strategic task forces and participated on the board's Budget &
Finance and Long Range Planning committees. Brian also serves on The
Center Foundation's Board of Trustees.
